Can I make a statement this morning that many get intimidated by but there is so much truth in scripture through it. THERE IS POWER IN REPENTANCE! I know ouch right. No one ever wants to hear the word repent but I find it to be one of the most freeing words in scripture because Repentance leads to Freedom.
Everyone wants to be experience freedom yet do we want to do what it takes to get there? Freedom comes through repentance. To Repent is to change your mind. To turn around and go a different way than you are currently going. We long for freedom because we are stuck in bondage. The bondage of a disease, the bondage of our past, the bondage of our current sinful heart and we long to be free of it. How can the Lord free us of something when we are not willing to do what it takes to experience freedom.
Through this season stop and reflect. What has become a god to you and you have place it over the one true God in your priority list. What has become your king? What sin (public or private) is holding you back and you have not be willing to turn from it. To repent of it!
Before God heals our land we must first HUMBLE ourselves before Him (2 Chronicles 7:14). Before God makes our paths straight we must first SUBMIT to Him (Proverbs 3:5-6). Before God grants eternal salvation you must be willing to repent of your sins (Acs 3:19). Before you prosper with freedom you must repent of that which is holding you back (Proverbs 28:13). The message Jesus brought to the earth was a very simply one: Repent and Believe. John the Baptist taught it, Peter and Paul preached it. It was THE message yet today we have run from this message! Luke 5:32 Jesus even says “I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”
As you read this remember though how deep your father loves you and wants you:
Joel 2:13 “Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and he relents from sending calamity.”
2 Peter 3:9 “The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”
The powerful part is every time we find repentance we find healing. We find freedom. We find hope through the Lord. We find prosperity. Let’s stop leaning on our own understanding and let’s starting submitting to the Lord and trusting him. Let’s live in a way that we run from the gods that we have put before us and run to the God who came to save us. When we get to this point remember He will make our paths straight!!
Can I encourage you, while you have time, evaluate where you are in your walk with Christ. What do you need to repent of and return to the Lord with your life? Through God’s grace He always welcomes us back and provides the freedom. Can I encourage you with a word we find discouraging but leads to the greatest freedom, repent and find freedom through Jesus!!
